First look: Search and State Merino jersey and S2-R bibshort

A simple stylish pairing from New York brand Search and State

In a world of Italian heritage and Far East mass production, it’s interesting to find a clothing brand from an unlikely cycling venue: New York. Search and State hails from Manhattan, in the heart of the city’s Garment District.

‘This is our advantage,’ says co-founder Devin O’Brien. ‘We’re able to control our production environment on every level. We can be a part of the creation process each day and, given our location, have access to some amazing fabrics.’

The Merino jersey and S2-R bibshorts are the focal points of the current collection.  ‘We sourced a lot of wool before we chose this one.’ says O’Brien. ‘The fabric is soft but durable, while doing everything it’s meant to do: wick and insulate.’

The jersey is paired with the S2-R bibshorts. They have a flatter pad to allow for more movement on the saddle, and fewer seams to help eliminate chafing.

Rather than large logos, Search and State opts for an understated aesthetic that stems from O’Brien and other co-creator Dan Golden’s background in NYC fashion: ‘That way the fit, fabrics and performance can do the talking.’
