Verdict:

The Rapha Women's Hooded Rain Jacket is a great jacket for commuters, designed to work hard on the bike and look good out of the saddle

Each year Rapha’s city offering for women seems to get a little more sparse. This year there were only two new items added, a knit jersey a bit reminiscent of something you would buy from Fred Perry, and a hooded rain jacket.

It is a shame that the collection seems to be shrinking year on year, as I personally always loved their merino sweaters, but Rapha evidently does not see women’s city clothing as an area of growth for the brand.

Despite my disappointment in the lack of a city collection for women, I have to admit that the new Rapha Women's Hooded Rain Jacket has quickly become a staple in my wardrobe.

The Hooded Rain Jacket uses a lightweight, high-stretch fabric and fully taped internal seams to ensure water and wind resistance, making it perfect for the rigours of the city cycling.

The city-inspired cut is more relaxed than Rapha’s other riding jackets and doesn’t scream cyclist when you're off the bike. Yet it still features many of the details you would expect to find on a Rapha training or race jacket.

The hood is designed to fit under a bike helmet, although personally I found this a bit awkward, and opted to roll the hood into the collar when not in use.

With cinch-cords on the hood and self-locking eyelets, allowing for single-handed adjustments, the attention to the little details is flawless.

This is demonstrated again with the fold-back hi-vis cuffs, and hi-vis, drop-down tail aimed to boost riding visibility and to keep your behind dry.

Laser-cut vent-holes under the arms increase airflow, and the water-resistant Vislon front zip has a velcro-fastened placket to keep rain and wind at bay.

The jacket is available in dark blue and black and is perfect for Autumn riding around town.
