Rapha Women’s shorts review

Rapha Women's Classic bibshorts
22 Sep 2015

The Rapha Classic Women’s bibshorts are the same excellent quality as the men’s with additional care taken on the shape.

Cyclist Rating:
Excellent pad
Full-body construction is a bit of a faff

A few years ago, Rapha set out to bring the same level of care and quality of materials to its women’s range as its men’s clothing, and that goal has been achieved with these Classic Bibs.

The lycra material is strong and thick, so it feels high quality (with an air of compression) but it’s not thick to the point of insulation. The padding is excellent, maintaining its comfort after long distances, but it’s not overly padded so it never bunches up and cuts off circulation. The leg grippers sit nicely on the thigh, preventing the dreaded ‘sausage leg’ and the material finish on the inside prevents them from slowly rising up.

There are some downsides to the construction – the full-body zip can be awkward to get out of when it’s time for a comfort break, and it acts like a baselayer so care has to be taken when layering up in certain temperatures. Although the rear zipped ‘radio’ pocket is a nice extra feature, you have to be a contortionist to reach it so it doesn’t really add anything – it also get’s damp if you’re doing anything above dawdling. These are small niggles on what has become our go-to short for our female testers.

It’s also worth nothing that Rapha offer a pair of regular shorts, without shoulder straps, if you prefer the fit.

Pad – 9/10
