With interest in cycling continuing to soar alongside the nation’s ongoing success on the international scene, British Cycling has now reached 140,000 members for the first time in its history. Yet while that success owes much to British WorldTour pros, Olympians and Paralympians in their red, white and blue skinsuits, more than half of British Cycling’s members have no intention of pinning on a race number any time soon.

Now the largest organisation of its kind in the country, British Cycling has seen its Ride memberships – which are designed for commuters, sportive riders, and leisure users – overtake those for competitive racers, as more and more recreational cyclists realise the benefits on offer to all cyclists.

Chief among them is the provision of worldwide third-party liability insurance for all leisure cycling, including sportives, commuting, club rides and training – basically everything that isn’t a race.

Covering members against claims if they’re found to be at fault following a cycling incident, it provides peace-of-mind cover to a limit of £15 million.

This is just one of the many benefits on offer. Legal support is also included with memberships, ensuring that members have class-leading representation to help them make a claim in the event of a cycling incident that is not their fault, without the legal fees.

Whether riding to work, exploring the countryside on two wheels or tackling one of the season’s many sportives, a Ride membership provides a helping hand when it is needed most.

Plus, with membership fees invested back into the sport and on campaigns to make cycling safer, your membership will play a role in improving the lot for your fellow cyclists too.

A keystone in the nation’s cycling success story

Constantly evolving alongside the riders who make up its ranks, British Cycling is run for the benefit of its members.

And with over 74% of those members regularly signing up for sportives, a Ride level membership is a great tool for helping non-competitive riders get to the front of the queue for big cycling events.

Members get priority access to sportives such as Velo South, Tour de Yorkshire, Velothon Wales, Etape London and more.

Similarly, to keep both bike and body in top condition, members also get access to a range of benefits off the bike, including a 10% discount at Evans Cycles, Chain Reaction Cycles and Halfords, along with 30% off at sports nutrition supplier SiS.

From hosting local races to helping find and nurture our future medallists and Tour champions, British Cycling has been an advocate for the sport since 1959.

With membership growing year on year, over the last 12 months it has succeeded in getting more than 100,000 participants on bikes at HSBC UK Let’s Ride events and has supported more than 25,000 volunteers in helping deliver cycling programmes across the UK.

With a range of campaigns, it aims to make Britain an even greater cycling nation.

Helping its members get the most from the sport they love while staying protected and supporting the future growth of cycling in the UK, British Cycling is for everyone who rides a bike.

Ride is a 12-month membership and costs £39 a year. Become a Ride member at britishcycling.org.uk/join.
