Following a hugely successful 2019 event, sign up for 2020 which is expected to be the biggest edition yet

Fancy riding 100 miles of the Midlands' best roads next summer, starting and finishing in the heart of Birmingham? Look no further than the 2020 edition of the Vélo Birmingham & Midlands sportive for a fantastic day out on two wheels seeing the best of the West Midlands' cities, villages and picturesque countryside.

To make this sportive even more of a must-ride, the 100-mile route will be on entirely closed roads allowing the peace of mind and rare joy of getting out without the constant threat of motor vehicles. Such opportunities are hard to come by in Britain.

To take part, riders will need to pre-register. Once the entries are open, anyone who has put their name down will be notified and can complete their registration to guarantee a place in what's sure to be a fantastic day out on the bike - taking place on Sunday 28th June 2020.

Why ride?

Closed roads, a challenging 100 mile route, a combination of urban and rural - what's stopping anyone from signing up? Events with start-to-finish road closures are rare in the UK so any opportunity to enjoy a traffic-free route should be pounced upon.

There are places for 18,000 riders, a number that is expected to be met long before next summer's event, and all of those riders will need to pre-register - so don't miss out.

What's more, the latest outing of the Vélo Birmingham & Midlands raised over £1 million for local and national charities and next year’s event will once again work closely with the four charity partners – Cure Leukaemia, Alzheimer’s Society, NSPCC and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity – as well as with dozens of other charities.

Taking part in the ride gives people the chance to raise even more money at the 2020 event.

The route

More details about the route will be released over the coming months as the best roads and climbs in the area are scoped out by the team at Vélo Birmingham and Midlands.

What anyone who pre-registers can be assured of is a 100-mile route that covers a combination of urban sightseeing and stunning countryside as the sportive loops out into the West Midlands and back for a city centre finish, in a way that's rare for UK sportives.

Thanks to its start-finish in Birmingham and a route that goes through Coventry, Vélo Birmingham is the only mass participation cycling event in the world that is hosted by two iconic cities, making it a truly unique cycling experience.
